Community Support

Community support is one of the many factors the NRC considers when reviewing applications for nuclear power plant projects. You can express your support for this project, which will provide power to meet increasing demand without emitting carbon dioxide, create 4,000 construction jobs and 400 permanent jobs, and have a large impact on the economy of northeastern Pennsylvania.

PPL appreciates the support of the Bell Bend project from people in the community and organizations that have written letters to the NRC.

Letters of support may be sent to:

Michael A. Canova
Project Manager

Division of New Reactor Licensing
Office of New Reactors
United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission
11545 Rockville Pike
Rockville, MD 20852-2738

Nuclear loan guarantees

We also invite your letters of support – mailed to your members of Congress, for an expanded federal nuclear loan guarantee program. Here are a few points to consider:

  • Nuclear loan guarantees are not a “handout” from the government. Companies like PPL would pay upfront fees to offset the remote risk that the government would actually have to pay out on the guarantees.
  • The nuclear loan guarantee program currently in place does not go far enough; Congress needs to expand it in terms of amounts allocated for guarantees. PPL would not proceed to construct the Bell Bend unit until it obtains or finalizes a joint arrangement with other interested parties and obtains a federal loan guarantee or other acceptable financing structures.

For information on how to contact your federal representatives, visit www.house.gov and www.senate.gov
or call the Federal Information Center at 1-800-FED-INFO (1-800-333-4636).

Please – Also send a copy of your letters to:
Joseph J. Scopelliti
Manager-Community Relations, Susquehanna
634 Salem Boulevard
Berwick, PA 18603
